See Thai art from Buddha sculpture

Yesterday I got a chance to do the 9 temples tour around Bangkok. In Thailand, it had been believed that visiting 9 temples brings you bless and luck. By peeping around those temples, including visiting the national museum of art, It reminded me about the concise way to distinguish the art from different period. Regarding to two old capital of Thailand, Sukhothai and Ayudhya, most of the buddha sculpture and the temple architecture in Central Thailand could be devided into 2 main class which are Sukhothai art and Ayudhya art. (The Northern and Southern should be consider separately from the central since the culture in those area had been influenced from different tribes)

First, the Sukhothai art, as Sukhothai was the early Kingdom of Thailand active in 1238-1438, the cultured was mixed of Indian, Khmer, Burmese and Srivijaya. The Buddha Sculptures crafted in this period depict the impact of Srilanka and Indian art, which focus on the beauty of curve, symmetry and elegancy. The important characteristic of Sukhothai Buddha sculpture is that the body is tall, egg shape face, round eyebrows and curled hair.

Ayudhya was a second capital of Thailand, which being known as Siamese Kingdom during that period. Its long existence in 1350-1767 made it rich in culture and tradition. Ayudhya art can be divided into 3 sub era. The early Ayudhaya was not significantly different from Sukhothai, however some of the slight different could be distinguish from Buddha sculptures such as the face are more rectangular and the eyebrows are more solid. During the final Ayudhaya period, Buddha sculpture became more luxurious and nourished in details. Even though the sculpture look not so different, the architect of Ayudhya style temple is quite disparate. Since Ayudhya is a port town connecting Southeast Asia to the world, it interacts with many of foreign communities such as Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Persian, Portuguese, Dutch and French. The Architecture in final period of Ayudhya adopted some of the western architecture such as stained glass and curve arch.

Lavender oil is always my first choice for Aromatherapy. Its scent brings relaxing sensation that effectively reduce my stress. Further than that, every time I smell it, the snot is always magically wiped away from my nose!!

This is so impressive!!

So I googled just to know what kind of chemical in lavender yield such a fantastic respiratory-related result.

Lavender is one of the mint family, the most noticeable characteristic is it small shrubs and the purple tiny petals. When picked up freshly, the odor can be sense by crushing the flower in bare hand. For some species of Lavender, the fragrance is sharper, depending on the amount of Terpenes ( Terpenes are organic compound produce by some plants and insects for protective purpose ).

The oil is antiseptic and acti-inflammotory, it also regarded as a powerful allergen. With the main chemical component which are linalool, linalyl acetate and Terpenes, It is believed that the respiration benefits of Lavender oil is caused by Terpenes, which could be use in the treatment for some lung disorders.

It just hit me hard!!

Children Day 2012

It was a children day on 14th of Jan in Thailand. I was out of the town, jointed my friend for a charity trip to Supanburi. What we did was buying stationary and some food to distribute to children in remote area. We arranged a game to award children stationary and of course tons of kids participated the activity like crazy.

This afternoon, my mom asked me to check up the video tape player for her since she want to play the record of her wedding ceremony. I cleaned up and plugged it to a CRT TV, not sure if it was going to work.

The machine made some noise so I put some of the video tape on, and some of the childhood memory was recalled.

The funniest thing to see on the screen is my self, at the age of 1, dancing around with a round piggy face!! And, not to be bias, I was extremely cute back then!! LOL Another tape that made my day was a copy of Disney Animation, Chip ‘n’ Dale with Donald Duck. It was my favorite! One of my favorite episode so far is Three For Breakfast (follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnR45g4MWGk )

So sad, they do not make more animation like that in these days. :”(

Finally we have reached 2012, the most terrified year of the decade.
There were so many rumors about Apocalypse, and lots of people just can’t stop spreading the rumors.
I know tons of people who always convince others (and also themselves) that the world is sure to end in the late of this coming December. But, seriously, I still see them living and working just like the world will never collapse.

How is this interpreted something?

It implicate that every one, even the hopeless guys, still have hope, deep inside their mind, that the world is not gonna explode this year!!

And I can say that, OF COURSE the earth is not going to collapse this year.
Regarding to scientific research, the age of Earth is 4.54 billion years, and before it reached the stage in nowadays, Earth have been through dozens of catastrophic.
The Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event occurred 65.5 million years ago is a prove that the earth, itself, is strong enough to tolerate the impact of a huge asteroid.

What causes the extinction is the breakage of animals food chain and the spoiled ecosystem. Not only by Asteroid impact, such devastated biological system can be provoked by other calamities as well and the obvious one is Green House effect, promoted by human activities.

So… what is to worry about is not ‘Whether the earth is going to explode or collapse by the impact’ but ‘Whether the ecological system will maintain its equilibrium in such a severe climate change situation’.

The civilization is going to arrive its close end if humanity still ruin the nature intensively. And ,indeed, the earth will keep spinning and lives will keep evolving peacefully without the weakest species, humankind.
